Call routing

Nearest number

Present an outgoing number that suits the area you're calling, so more of your calls get answered.

When you call a customer or a supplier, the number they see on their screen shapes whether they pick up. A calling line that looks unfamiliar or out of area is easy to ignore. Nearest number lets Voxbi choose the outgoing caller ID that best matches the destination, so your call looks like it is coming from a number relevant to where the recipient is.

This is managed through Voxbi's outbound routing, which can be configured per SIP carrier. Because your phone numbers and carrier routing are set up in the Voxbi Cockpit, you control which numbers are available for outbound use and how they are selected.

When you'd use nearest number

  • A team that calls customers across multiple cities or regions and wants to show a local number for each area.

  • A business with numbers in several countries that needs to present the right country code without choosing it by hand each time.

  • Any situation where showing a consistent, contextually relevant caller ID improves the chance that the recipient answers.

How nearest number works in Voxbi

  1. Set up your phone numbers

In the Voxbi Cockpit, your numbers are associated with carriers and outbound caller ID settings.

  2. Configure outbound routing

Voxbi's SIP carrier configuration determines which number is used when placing an outgoing call.

  3. Make a call

When a call goes out, Voxbi selects the appropriate caller ID based on your routing configuration.

  4. The recipient sees a relevant number

The person you are calling sees a number that matches the context of where they are.

Frequently asked questions

How does Voxbi decide which number to show?

The selection is governed by your outbound routing and SIP carrier configuration in the Voxbi Cockpit. The exact automatic matching logic (for example, whether an area-code lookup happens in real time) should be confirmed with Voxbi before you rely on it for a specific use case.

Do I need multiple phone numbers for this to work?

Yes. Nearest number is only meaningful if you have numbers in different areas or countries assigned in your Voxbi account.

Can I override the selected caller ID for a specific user?

Caller ID options are configurable in the Cockpit at the user and carrier level. Speak with your Voxbi administrator about per-user settings.
