Group SMS sending

Send SMS messages to individuals or whole groups straight from the platform.

Voxbi includes an SMS gateway that lets you send messages to individuals or groups without leaving your phone system. It works in both directions: outbound messages go from Voxbi to any mobile number, and inbound messages arrive back through your business number and can be forwarded automatically to an email address.

For many teams, this closes a practical gap. Instead of switching between the phone system and a separate messaging tool, or handing out a personal mobile number for text communication, everything runs through the same platform your team already uses for calls.

When you'd use group SMS

  • A security or IT team that needs two-factor authentication codes sent to a shared phone number forwarded reliably to a group email list, even when no one is physically near the SIM.

  • A monitoring or operations team whose servers and connected devices send SMS alerts that should reach IT staff by email for centralised logging and escalation.

  • A business that wants to reach contacts by text using a registered business number rather than a personal phone, with replies routed back into the team inbox.

How group SMS works in Voxbi

  1. Choose how you send

Voxbi supports three delivery methods: via an email-to-SMS gateway (compose an email, it arrives as a text), manually through the client portal, or programmatically through the API for automated systems.

  2. Send to individuals or groups

A single message can go to one recipient or to a distribution list. For inbound messages, you define the email address or group that receives forwarded texts.

  3. Receive replies by email

When a recipient replies to an SMS sent through the gateway, the reply is delivered to your configured email address, keeping the conversation in one place without requiring anyone to monitor a separate mobile.

Frequently asked questions

Can inbound SMS be forwarded to multiple people at once?

Yes. You can configure a group email list as the forwarding destination, so a message arriving on the business number reaches everyone in the group simultaneously.

Can I send SMS without writing any code?

Yes. You can send messages manually through the Voxbi portal, or use the email-to-SMS method, which requires no technical setup. The API option is available for teams that want automated or high-volume sending.

What are the common automated use cases?

The most common are two-factor authentication code forwarding to a team inbox, server and application alert escalation, and connected-device notifications (for example, a low-battery alert from a remote sensor). The SMS gateway integrates into your existing telephony setup, so no separate platform is needed.

Do I need to verify the mobile number the SMS comes from?

Yes. To use an existing mobile number as the sender, you need to confirm ownership of that number. Your Voxbi contact or the support team can walk you through the process.
