Internal calls connect you to any colleague inside your organisation instantly, using a short extension number rather than a full phone number. Because the call stays within the Voxbi system, it costs nothing to make and works regardless of where either person is physically located: the same office, a remote desk, or a mobile phone.

The Voxbi app makes this even simpler. Instead of memorising extension numbers, you search a colleague by name in the extensions panel, check their availability status, and call them with one click. Green means available now. Yellow means on a call. The status information is live, so you are not guessing before you dial.

When you'd use internal calls

  • A team distributed across several locations needs to reach each other as simply as if they were in the same room, without routing calls through an external line.

  • A new employee wants to reach a colleague but does not know their extension: a quick name search in the Voxbi app surfaces the right person and their current status.

  • A manager wants to check in with a team member quickly before a client call, knowing at a glance whether they are free before reaching out.

How internal calls work in Voxbi

  1. Each user has an extension number

    Extensions are short internal numbers assigned in the Voxbi Cockpit. Your administrator typically uses a consistent scheme (for example, one range per department) to keep them easy to remember.

  2. Dial the extension or search by name

    From a desk phone, dial the extension directly. From the Voxbi app, open the extensions panel and search by name. Availability status is shown in real time so you know before you call whether the person is free.

  3. Call with one click

    In the Voxbi app, clicking a colleague's name places the call immediately. No long numbers, no external dial tone.

  4. Works from anywhere

    Internal calls route through the cloud PBX, so location does not matter. A colleague working from home has the same extension as at the office, and calling them is identical from your end.

Frequently asked questions

Do internal calls cost anything?

No. Calls between extensions on the same Voxbi system are free, regardless of how many you make or how long they last.

What do the status colours mean?

Green means the colleague is available and ready for calls. Yellow means they are currently on a call. Red means they have set themselves to busy or do not disturb. Grey means they are away or not logged in. Statuses update in real time in the Voxbi app.

Can I call a colleague who is working from home?

Yes. Extensions follow the user, not the physical desk. A colleague connected to Voxbi via the app on their laptop or mobile phone is reachable on the same extension number as always.

What if I want to reach someone whose extension I do not know?

Use the search function in the Voxbi app's extensions panel. Type part of the person's name and the matching results appear with their status. No directory lookup or IT request is needed.
