Mobile twinning makes your desk extension and your personal mobile phone ring at the same time when a business call arrives. Whichever device you answer on, the caller sees your company number and reaches you immediately. The moment one device picks up, the other stops ringing, and nothing in the experience changes for the person calling.

The feature is designed for situations where desk phones and remote work coexist: team members want to remain reachable on their business number without being tied to a specific device or location. No extra hardware is needed, and no carrier change is required.

When you'd use mobile twinning

  • A manager who moves between meeting rooms and their desk and cannot guarantee they will always be at their computer when a call arrives.

  • A remote or hybrid team where people work from home on some days and in the office on others, and where using a single business number matters for consistency.

  • A support or account team that should never miss a call from a client, even during brief periods away from the desk.

How mobile twinning works in Voxbi

  1. Enter the mobile number in settings

    In the Phone section of the Voxbi client settings, enter the mobile number you want calls forwarded to. The number must be in international format.

  2. Choose when the mobile rings

    You can set the mobile to ring simultaneously with the desk extension, only when you are not signed into the Voxbi app, or after a configurable delay.

  3. Enable twinning in the call flow

    An administrator enables the "Dial mobile twinnings" option in the call flow assigned to the user, so the PBX knows to ring the mobile alongside the extension.

  4. Answer from either device

    When a call arrives, both devices ring. Answering on one stops the other automatically, and the caller always sees the business number.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enable mobile twinning myself or does an admin need to do it?

Both. You can enter your mobile number and toggle twinning on or off directly in the Voxbi app (web or Windows) under Settings, then the Phone tab. An administrator also needs to confirm the "Dial mobile twinnings" option is active in your call flow for twinning to work.

Will the caller know whether I answered on my desk phone or my mobile?

No. The caller always sees your business number regardless of which device you answered on.

What happens if I do not answer on either device?

The call follows whatever fallback is configured in your call flow, typically voicemail or a transfer to another person or queue, exactly as it would if you had not answered on the desk phone alone.

Is mobile twinning the same as FMC?

No. Mobile twinning works with any mobile number on any carrier and relies on call forwarding over the internet. FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence) uses a dedicated Mixvoip SIM card and routes calls through the mobile network at the network level, which removes the dependency on data connectivity. FMC is available in Belgium and Luxembourg via Mixvoip; mobile twinning works with any number, anywhere.
