Multi-platform softphone

One app for Windows, macOS, iPhone, Android, and the browser.

A softphone is a software application that lets you make and receive phone calls over the internet using Voice over IP, with no desk phone required. The Voxbi softphone is the same application across every platform: it connects to your Voxbi extension, shows your colleagues' availability, handles transfers, gives you access to your call history, and lets you manage your status, all from whichever device you are using at the time.

Because it connects to your Voxbi account rather than a physical line, switching between devices is seamless. You can take a call on your laptop in the morning and the same extension is reachable on your phone in the afternoon.

When you'd use the softphone

  • A business that does not want to buy or maintain desk phones for every employee, or that wants to give remote and hybrid workers a full phone experience without shipping hardware.

  • An employee who travels frequently and needs their business number and all its features, including call history, transfers, and colleague presence, available on a personal device.

  • A team using a mix of devices across operating systems, where a single app that covers Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and browser keeps IT overhead low.

How the softphone works in Voxbi

  1. Download or open the app for your platform

Voxbi is available as a Windows desktop app, an iOS app (iOS 15 and above), and an Android app (Android 9 and above). On macOS and any other device, the web client runs in a browser with no installation required.

  2. Sign in with your Voxbi account

Your extension, contacts, call history, and settings load automatically. Colleagues see your availability status in real time.

  3. Make and receive calls as you would at your desk

All the features of your PBX, including transfers, voicemail, mobile twinning, and call queues, are available in the app on every platform.

  4. Adjust audio and preferences in settings

The app includes dedicated audio settings to choose your microphone and speaker, and a Phone settings tab to configure twinning, voicemail-to-email, and other call preferences.

Frequently asked questions

Does the browser version require a plugin or extension?

No. The Voxbi web client uses WebRTC, which is built into modern browsers. No plugin or add-on is needed. Chrome is the recommended browser for the best audio performance.

Can I use the softphone and a desk phone on the same extension at the same time?

Yes. Voxbi supports multiple SIP devices on a single user account, so a desk phone and the softphone app can both ring simultaneously, and you answer on whichever is more convenient.

Does the mobile app support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay?

Yes. The Voxbi mobile app works with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so you can manage calls safely from your car's dashboard without picking up the phone.

Is there a way to handle tel: links on the desktop using the softphone?

Yes. The Windows app can act as the default dialler for tel: links, and macOS users can use Voxbi as the default phone app to open tel:// links or dial any number selected on screen using an Automator script.
